About

The story behind Paomi Today

Let’s be real: most mainstream news doesn’t cover Manipur unless there’s a riot, a natural disaster, or a death count that makes headlines. The stories that shape everyday life here—the tensions, the resilience, the politics, the hope—don’t make it past the margins. That’s where Paomi Today comes in.

We were born out of frustration, but also out of a deep belief: that people deserve to be heard—not just as statistics, but as full human beings. We’re not trying to compete with the big media houses. We’re doing something they won’t: telling the truth as it unfolds on the ground, without filtering it through distant editorial boards or corporate interests.

What We Stand For

We’re independent. That means we don’t answer to political parties, wealthy donors, or hidden agendas. Our only allegiance is to the truth—and to the people living it.

We’re local. We don’t just report on Manipur; we live here. We know the terrain, the culture, the pain, and the pride. That gives us something outsiders don’t have: context.

We’re inclusive. If your voice has been ignored, erased, or distorted—we’re here for you. Whether you’re an elder in a village, a student protestor, or someone who’s never been interviewed before, your story matters.

We’re fearless. Not reckless. Not performative. Just honest. Sometimes that honesty makes people uncomfortable, but comfort isn’t our goal. Clarity is.

Our Work

At Paomi Today, we publish stories that matter. These aren’t just quick takes or recycled wire copy. Our coverage dives into real issues:

  • Land, identity, and conflict
  • Corruption and accountability
  • Cultural expression and erasure
  • Grassroots movements
  • Gender, caste, and systemic injustice
  • Voices from the margins

We also focus on solutions. Journalism isn’t just about pointing out what’s broken. It’s about showing how people are responding—organizing, resisting, building something better.

You’ll find news, yes. But also opinion pieces, photo essays, personal stories, and investigative reporting. Our writers range from seasoned journalists to first-time contributors who just have something worth saying.

Who’s Behind This

We’re a small team, but a committed one. Journalists, editors, photographers, researchers, and volunteers. Some of us are trained in media. Others learned by doing. All of us care deeply about this place.

We work late, fact-check obsessively, and argue over headlines. But we agree on one thing: journalism should serve the people—not power.

We’re also supported by a growing network of contributors from across the region. If you’re someone with a story, skill, or perspective to share, we want to hear from you.

Why This Matters

When people are denied a voice, others speak for them—and that’s dangerous. That’s how stereotypes spread. That’s how injustice goes unchallenged. That’s how communities disappear from the public imagination.

Media has power. We use ours to do three things:

  1. Inform — Bring context, clarity, and truth to complex situations.
  2. Educate — Go beyond headlines. Help readers understand the ‘why’ behind the ‘what.’
  3. Empower — Give people tools to speak, act, and organize.

We’re not saviors. We’re not neutral observers. We’re part of this place—and we see media as a tool for liberation, not just information.

What Makes Us Different

We don’t chase clicks. We don’t rely on paid placements disguised as “news.” We don’t publish press releases without scrutiny.

Every piece we run is fact-checked, locally informed, and framed with intention. We believe journalism is a craft, not a content mill. And we treat it that way.

We’re also open-source when possible—meaning others can reuse our work (with credit) to spread awareness. That’s part of the point: make the truth harder to ignore.

How We’re Funded

Independence doesn’t come cheap. We’re supported through small donations, reader support, and the occasional ethical advertisement. That’s it.

No corporate money. No political kickbacks. And when we do partner with others, we disclose it.

If you value what we do, consider supporting us. A little goes a long way in keeping this platform alive.

Where We’re Going

We’re still growing. Still learning. Still figuring out what this platform can become. But our direction is clear: more original reporting, more community voices, more space for the truths that others ignore.

In the long term, we want Paomi Today to be more than a website. We want it to be a media movement—a place where truth-telling is contagious, where resistance is documented, and where silence doesn’t mean invisibility.

This is journalism that remembers who it’s for.
This is Paomi Today.
