A one-day awareness programme on “Comilla Cotton-Based Healthcare Products” was organised at the College of Food Technology, Lamphelpat, with a focus on menstrual health and hygiene among adolescent girls and women.
The programme featured discussions on Comilla cotton and its applications, along with a technical session on menstrual health and hygiene conducted by Dr. Bhavna C. Soso, Medical Officer, College of Food Technology.
A key highlight was the introduction of Comilla cotton-based sanitary napkins, developed by CCS, Tura, under CICR NEH funds. The products are SAP-free (Super Absorbent Polymer-free) and were presented as a natural-fibre-based alternative to conventional sanitary products.
The programme also highlighted the potential of locally sourced agricultural resources for healthcare and menstrual hygiene applications, particularly in rural communities.
The event concluded with the distribution of Comilla cotton-based sanitary pads to adolescent girls and women staff from CAU Headquarters and the Directorate of Extension.
