Passengers departing from Imphal Airport are being encouraged to register for DigiYatra, a digital identity system designed to make air travel simpler, faster, and contactless.

In an advisory issued by airport authorities, travellers have been urged to complete their DigiYatra registration before their next journey. The system allows passengers to use facial recognition as their digital ID for airport entry, security checks, and boarding — removing the need for physical documents or repeated identity verification.

What DigiYatra Offers

With DigiYatra, a traveller’s face becomes their boarding pass. Once registered, passengers can glide through each checkpoint without showing printed tickets or ID cards. The technology, built around Facial Recognition and DigiLocker integration, ensures both security and convenience while reducing waiting time at crowded airports.

Imphal Airport officials highlighted that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to modernize passenger experience across India’s airports.

“With DigiYatra, our aim is to make travel smoother, faster, and more secure,” an airport spokesperson said. “We request all passengers to register well in advance so that they can enjoy the benefits of this paperless, queue-free experience.”

How to Register

Travellers can register using the DigiYatra mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. The process requires:

A valid Aadhaar number linked to DigiLocker,

A selfie for facial verification, and

Boarding pass details (to be linked automatically at check-in).

Once registered, passengers can simply walk through e-gates equipped with facial scanners at entry, security, and boarding points — making travel effortless from start to finish.

Privacy and Data Security

Authorities clarified that no personal data is stored centrally. The biometric information stays encrypted within the passenger’s device and is used only for authentication during travel, ensuring complete privacy.

The airport also appealed to passengers to familiarize themselves with the system before arriving to avoid last-minute delays and ensure smoother processing during peak hours.

As air traffic from Imphal continues to grow and flight connectivity expands, DigiYatra is expected to transform the passenger experience — merging technology with trust and efficiency.

“Let’s make travel smarter and faster together,” the advisory concluded. “Your cooperation means a lot to us.”
